The conditions governing this extension can be summarised as: -
1. The primary purpose for hiring the venue needs to be for the insured member to stage the performance of their listed activities.
2. The insured member or group needs to be the hirer of the venue.
3. The estimated audience of the performance cannot exceed 500.
4. Any signed Venue Hire Agreement must not contain a Hold Harmless clause – this has the effect of the hirer accepting Liability of the venue regardless of cause of incident. The Property Owner of the venue has their own Public Liability exposures and it is not the intention of the Duck policy to pick up these exposures.
5. Contractors (other than those forming part of “Groups”) who are engaged by individuals or groups to stage their performance are required to hold their own Public Liability Insurance. This same requirement will apply to member who hires a venue and it will be the responsibility of the member to verify.
6. The coverage for Individual Duck membership is for the individuals performing activities and extends to include cover for non-performing assistants. This same cover applies when member hires a venue.
7. The coverage for Group Duck members is for the Groups performing activities and extends to include cover for non-performing assistants. This same cover applies when group hires a venue.
what does this extension mean?
When you hire a venue to stage your own show (including rehearsals and workshops) you take on the additional role of an Event Organiser.
This expands your responsibilities and makes you accountable for the duty of care to your audience and property damage to the venue that might arise from all of your performing and non performing activities associated with staging your show.
The Venue Hire policy extension provided under the Duck Members Public Liability Insurance policy covers you as an Event Organiser when you hire a venue to stage your own show, rehearsal or workshop.
